Five minutes of guided speech practice a day
A word at a time: hear a clear example, say it, listen back. The app hears your child — and the feedback is honest about what it can judge.
Hear it, say it, compare
Every word starts with a clear example recording — in American, British, Indian or Australian English, whichever your family speaks. Your child says the word, then plays their own try back beside the example. Hearing the difference is the practice.
Feedback that stays honest
Instant feedback on the R sound, and listen-and-compare on every word. Where the AI isn’t validated for a sound, it says nothing rather than guessing — no invented scores, ever. How the feedback works →
Progress that adds up
Sessions follow your child’s plan — one sound, the right word positions, a few days a week. Days practised and words tried are saved, and you choose what to share with your SLP.
Questions parents ask about practice
How does speech practice work in SpeechStep?
A session works one word at a time: your child hears a clear example of the word, says it, and listens to their own try played back beside the example. The app listens to what was actually said — feedback and practice tips respond to the attempt, not just to whether something was spoken. Sessions follow your child’s practice plan, built from their assessment or set by your SLP.
How long is a practice session?
About five minutes. Short and daily beats long and occasional for speech practice — young children do better with a small number of focused attempts than a marathon — so sessions are deliberately sized to fit after breakfast or before bed, and the streak rewards showing up, not grinding.
What sounds can my child practice?
Any of the common trouble sounds — S, R, L, TH, CH, SH and more — each with word lists by position in the word. Feedback stays honest by design: instant feedback on the R sound, and listen-and-compare on every word. Where there is no AI verdict, that is deliberate — hearing the difference is part of the practice, and you can ask for a human review.
Do I need an account to try it?
Yes — a free account, which takes about a minute: we email you a sign-in code, no password. A parent or guardian holds the account for a child or teen; adults (18 or older) can practise their own speech on their own account. A voice is only ever analysed for someone who is signed in. The free plan includes one sound a day without payment details; the account also keeps the practice plan, streaks and saved progress, and lets you share practice with your SLP.
