# SpeechStep

> Speech-sound practice at home for children, teens and adults, with a free lisp check and AI feedback on the sounds its checks support. Practice, not therapy: it complements a speech-language pathologist and doesn’t diagnose.

## Who it’s for
- Parents of children practising speech sounds (the parent holds the account)
- Teens 13–17 (a parent or guardian sets up the account; the teen practises on their own)
- Adults 18+ practising their own speech, including a lisp

## What it helps with
- Checking whether an S or Z sounds like a lisp (free lisp check: a short questionnaire, then an optional AI check with a free account)
- Short daily practice of speech sounds: words by age and position, examples to listen to, recording and feedback
- Practising without being told to lose your accent: four English profiles (US, UK, Indian, Australian), suggested from your country or browser and changeable

## What the AI feedback covers today
- S, Z, SH: a swap check: the AI says when another sound took the target’s place (for example TH for S), or that it heard the sound in place. It never gives a lisp verdict
- R: a ✓/○ verdict for US English, ages 9–12; a swap check for other ages and Englishes
- TH, L: listen-and-compare (no AI judgement yet)
- When the AI isn’t confident it asks you to try again instead of guessing a result

## Limits
- It doesn’t diagnose a speech disorder or a lisp, and isn’t speech therapy
- AI feedback covers only the sounds and ages listed above
- No human guidance about a specific person inside the product

## Privacy
- Nothing is recorded before a person has an account (a parent’s, for a child or teen)
- Each use of a recording beyond instant feedback is a separate choice, off until turned on
